If you have a website or do any kind of marketing such as for your own business or you are an affiliate for a network such as Clickbank then you know and understand that getting quality, targeted website traffic is the lifeblood of your online business.  Without traffic you do not stand a chance to grow as a business and make any money online.

There are two types of quality traffic that you can get where real people actually come to your website and are willing to make a purchase.  The two types are called paid traffic and free traffic.  I say "quality traffic of real people" because there is a lot of robots out there that send fake hits to your website.  It will look like your getting visitors but in real life you are not.  A lot of people try to take  a shortcut and pay like five dollars for a thousand hits but please do not fall victim to these kinds of people.  with paid traffic the results can be fast.  

Paid traffic such as ppc or pay per click is when somebody types a specific keyword phrase in either

Google or Bing and your ad or campaign will appear.  The nice thing about PPC advertising is you can get seen and not actually get charged unless somebody actually clicks on your ad.  PPC can be very expensive if you do not know what you are doing and understand how it all actually works such as a quality score related to your keywords.  Having a high quality score will actually lower your bid or cost per click.  You have other forms of paid advertising such as email where you can purchase a segment of somebody else email and that person will send a email with your business link or website in that email.  You have banner advertising which is a paid source and that is where you can add an image on another website that gets visitors and each time somebody clicks on your image they will be redirected to your website.  For example if you have a website that sells camping supplies or your an affiliate for something related to the outdoors you can purchase say a spot of Cabala's website and place your image or banner.  Cabala's gets thousand and thousand of views daily.  When a person on the Cabala's website see's your banner and clicks on it they will get redirected to your website or the website you are promoting.  There are many other types of paid traffic sources as well.  If you take this route a word of caution is to start your investment small and learn about that traffic source first until you can create an roi or return on your investment.

Then you have free traffic.  Types of free traffic can be organic which is where your content gets indexed or listed in the search engines such as Google or Bing.  This type of traffic usually takes time to get but when you understand how it all works it can be done sometimes in a very short time such as just one day or even minutes.  For example I can create a Youtube video and get it indexed and listed in the search results for a particular keyword in minutes sometimes.  Another source of free traffic is commenting on other peoples blogs.  Now for this method the key is to provide value and not spam on other peoples websites.  You have free sources such as what is called a "guest post" which is where you actually write a post on somebody elses blog or website and you can include a link back to your website or product at the end.
